The Code: our service

We have redesigned our Code assessment service to balance the demands of the Code with traditional procurement methods in order to minimise clients’ risks and, at the same time, avoid unnecessary expenditure.  We will work with the project team and guide them through the assessment process.

For example, detailed design is required to satisfy some of the Code criteria and to ensure that the required level can be achieved.  This work is often not carried out until a contractor is appointed as part of a design and build contract, which makes it difficult to ensure that all the required features are included in a planning submission or the tender documents.

To overcome this challenge and to avoid the client having to commission detailed, potentially abortive, design early in the project, we agree a strategy to meet the Code with the project team early in the design process.  We produce a report for all members of the project team, so that each party is aware of how the Code requirements affect them.

The report includes evidence that will be required later in the project and items that need to be included in planning, tender and specification documents to ensure that the Code Level can be achieved without the need for revised documents or a new planning permission.

We minimise the client’s risk and expenditure by ensuring all the necessary elements and information are considered at the appropriate stage.
