RLP signs up to Cycle to Work campaign

Red Loft are pleased to announce that we have just signed up the the 'Cycle to Work' campaign. Our first recipient is 'enfant terrible' Adam Preece, who recently had his bike stolen from home, and is now the proud owner of a brand new sparking one. Red Loft signs up with Balco

We are delighted to announce that Red Loft have linked up with a Scandaniavian company that produces fabulous modular balconies giving small flats and apartments extentions of up to 20m² with a comforable glazed area that can be enjoyed all year round; providing a conservatory in the sky!

Designed and manufactured in Sweden by Balco, this system has been used extensively in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany. It is suitable for the refurbishment of flats, apartments and housing association blocks or for use in urban regeneration projects. The facade is totally transformed and an attractive and desirable new look is created.

Many of the refurbishments have been carried out on 1960s concrete estates, where it was significantly more cost effective to use this system, rather than to demolish and rebuild. The particular advantage being that the system can be bolted directly onto the existing concrete frame.

Good design and better communities

A recent article in The Guardian highlights the problems of providing well-designed, affordable housing in the current economic downturm, but also showed that this can be achieved and used Hyelm's Old Street development as an example. The project provides accommodation and facilities for young people to avoid them leaving London due to the lack of affordable housing. Red Loft managed all stages of this project on behalf of our client, Hyelm, including finding the site and managing the design and construction stages. This scheme fits the Homes & Community Agency's aim of championing good design as the 'bread and butter' of future developments.

Considerate Contractors Award

We are delighted to announce that Dunelm Property Services won the 'Bronze' award at the 'Considerate Contractors Awards' ceremony which took place in Edinburgh in March 2009. Dunelm completed the demolition and construction in just eight months and we send them our congratulations. Red Loft managed all stages of this project on behalf of the client, Carr Gomm. The building replaces the previous shared accommodation with bespoke, self-contained flats, which are all accessible to wheelchair users.

New Associate Partners

We are delighted to announce that Neil Jervis and Marcus Fisher have both been promoted to the roles of Associate Partners at Red Loft. Their promotion is not only in recognition of their previous hard work and commitment to Red Loft but also it acknowledges their future contribution and participation in the successful running of the company.

Neil has worked with us since the very early days of the company and was in fact our very first full time member of staff. Marcus joined us 4 years ago, initially as a Consultant but then moved to the North of England where he has been heading up our Manchester office as Regional Director.

Where ever Neil and Marcus have worked, and for which ever client they have worked for, they have been acknowledged as professional and authoritative consultants who have set a high standard for their colleagues and clients.

As Associate Partners they will now have the opportunity to become full Partners over the next 2 to 3 years.

We wish them every continuing success.

Homes for Islington

Red Loft's London office has been awarded a contract to provide development consultancy services and interim Development Manager support to Homes for Islington, the ALMO sponsored by the London Borough of Islington.

The commission is for project management of the second phase of HFI's new build development programme, which could comprise around 30 affordable homes and the contract is being led by Neil Jervis with support from Eamon Somers.

Another successful quiz night

Red Loft to like to say a huge thank you to all our colleagues, clients and staff who attended our 2nd Quiz Night held in May. We managed to raise a staggering £2,200 which has been divided to two charities; Plan International, a global charity working in 49 developing countries around the world generating change on issues affecting children at all levels, and the RePlace Project, a London based charity which provides a place of safety and advice for women escaping prostitution.

With over 80 participants, and quick fire questions, the nail biting finish was a draw between two of the Red Loft Partners, David and Danny. After a tie breaker, Danny managed to pip David to the post and secured the win for his team and then under the Rules of the Quiz, could nominate the recipient charities.

We would also like to say a very special thank you to the following companies, Hadley Homes, The Breyer Group, Lewis Silkin, Savills and Higgins who not only joined in the fun but also donated very generous gifts enabling us to raise even more money on the night.

Once again a very big thank you to everyone.

150 High Street

Red Loft has been appointed client side project managers to act for Genesis on 150 High Street, Stratford (Kessler site) opposite the Olympic Park. Our brief was to conclude negotiations with the vendor and work with them to achieve a satisfactory planning consent. In parallel we were tasked with finding a suitable construction partner to build out this �140 million plus development.

Planning approval has now been granted to develop over 650 homes adjacent to the 2012 Olympic site in Stratford, East London, by a combination of Newham Council and London and Thames Gateway Development Corporation.

The site on Stratford High Street, one of Genesis� biggest-ever land acquisitions, will include several residential blocks including a 42 storey tower as well as commercial and retail units and a hotel. 35% of the homes will be affordable, including social rent and shared ownership.

The Greater London Authority�s stage II report said that the scheme �has the potential to deliver significant new employment while also delivering a large number of new homes in this highly accessible location.�

Steve Coleman, Genesis Group Development Director said, �We are very excited to be able to focus on developing this site. The homes will contribute towards reducing the housing shortage in London and will have a positive economic impact on the area.

�This housing development, comprising large and small properties, provides opportunities for a wide range of uses in a high quality environment. With a predominance of residential properties � including affordable homes � complementary features include a hotel, restaurant and affordable work space. This mix of tenures will attract a wide range of people to the area, helping to create a strong, sustainable community.�

Cheryl joins Red Loft

Red Loft would like to welcome Cheryl Scott who joined us in January, having spent over 20 years in the social housing sector. Cheryl began her social housing career working in estate management and then spent 5 years working in private sector leasing. Cheryl has worked in regeneration and development for 10 years with 3 years at a senior level managing new business teams.

Stockport Homes

Red Loft’s Manchester office has been awarded a contract to undertake an assessment of new build opportunities on in-fill site within existing estates managed by Stockport Homes, with ownership remaining with Stockport Council.

Stockport Homes is the ALMO sponsored by Stockport Council.

The commission is for the whole of the Stockport area and is being led by Glyn, with support from Marcus and Noelson.

The contract started in January and will completed in March 2008.
